How to Live in Your Home During a Remodel
June 15, 20266 min read
Most of our clients stay in their homes during construction. These are the habits that make that survivable.
Set up a temporary kitchen on day one
A folding table, the microwave, the coffee maker, a toaster oven, and the refrigerator relocated to the garage or dining room. Do it before demolition, not after you are hungry.
Agree on boundaries in writing
Working hours, parking, which bathroom the crew uses, pets, alarm codes, and where materials stage. We cover all of it at the pre-construction meeting so nobody improvises.
Expect the loud, dusty week
Demolition and any concrete work are the worst of it and usually last three to five days. If you can travel during one week of the project, that is the week.
The takeaway
Plan the inconvenience deliberately and the remodel stops feeling like an invasion.
