Quartz vs. Quartzite vs. Marble: An Honest Comparison
May 19, 20266 min read
Three materials, similar showroom price tags, completely different behavior in a working kitchen.
Quartz
Engineered, non-porous, and consistent slab to slab. It never needs sealing and shrugs off wine and lemon. Its weakness is heat: a hot pan can scorch the resin permanently.
Quartzite
Natural stone, harder than granite, and heat tolerant. Many slabs sold as quartzite are actually softer dolomitic marble, so we test with an acid drop and a scratch on the offcut before fabrication.
Marble
Nothing else looks like it, and nothing else etches faster. We happily install marble on islands, baking areas, and bathroom vanities for clients who accept a developing patina — and steer everyone else to quartzite.
The takeaway
Choose the material for how you cook, then choose the slab for how it looks.
