Custom Cabinetry & Trim Package

Investment
$61,000
Duration
6 weeks

A 1936 cottage that had been added onto three times, with no usable storage anywhere. We designed and shop-built a library wall, a mudroom locker bank, a window seat with drawers, and replaced every casing and base in the original house.

Finish carpenter leveling custom white oak cabinetry during installation

Challenges

  • Original plaster walls were out of plumb by up to 3/4 inch over 8 feet.
  • Floor height changed twice between the original house and the additions.
  • Original 1936 casing profile was no longer manufactured.

How we solved them

  • Every cabinet and panel was scribed to the wall rather than caulked to it.
  • Custom-milled transition thresholds and adjusted toe-kick heights per run.
  • Ran a matching knife on our shop moulder from a salvaged original sample.

Selections & products

  • Paint-grade poplar library millwork, hand-sanded and sprayed in shop
  • White oak mudroom lockers with soapstone bench top
  • Custom-milled casing and base matched to the 1936 profile
  • Blum soft-close hardware throughout
  • Integrated LED shelf lighting on a dimmer

"Their carpenter spent an extra half day scribing the built-ins to an old plaster wall rather than caulking a gap. That is the difference you pay for."
